The Garge Art Studio, nestled in the vibrant city of Nashik, Maharashtra, stands as a testament to a rich legacy of creativity and artistic prowess. Established in the 1930s by the visionary artist G.N. Garge, this studio has become synonymous with the creation of awe-inspiring monumental art and exquisite portrait sculptures. In its early days, the studio, under the guidance of G.N. Garge, gained prominence for its diverse artistic endeavors. From crafting intricate idols to delving into the realms of photography and taxidermy, the studio became a hub of artistic expression. Notably, G.N. Garge’s association with the nationalist movement added a layer of depth to his work, as many of his dioramas during the Ganesh Festival subtly conveyed messages against the prevailing British rule.

The artistic torch was then passed on to the next generation, as G.N. Garge’s son, the accomplished artist Madan Garge, took the reins. A gold medalist from the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Art in sculpture and modeling, Madan Garge propelled the studio into new heights. Collaborating with his wife, the skilled painter Aruna Garge, the duo brought a fresh and unique perspective to monumental sculptures.

Madan Garge’s innovative approach involved not just capturing the physical likeness of his subjects but also infusing their life stories and philosophies into the very essence of his creations. The studio gained international recognition with installations such as the towering representation of Gandhiji as a symbol of human values along the Riverside in LA, USA, and the Bhakti Shakti Project in Pune, depicting the cultural intersection of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Saint Tukaram—symbolizing the fusion of warriors and devotees.

As time progressed, the Garge Art Studio continued its journey, seamlessly blending professional and educational activities. Today, the studio proudly welcomes the third generation of the Garge family into its artistic fold. Shreys Garge, under the dedicated guidance of his mother, the esteemed artist Aruna Garge, carries forward the family’s commitment to the cause of art. The studio remains a beacon of creativity, representing not only a family’s legacy but also the enduring spirit of Indian culture manifested through contemporary art.
